The FBI Gets to the Bottom of the Baltimore Bridge Collapse
The FBI Investigates Collapse of Francis Scott Key Bridge
The FBI has launched a criminal investigation into the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Maryland, just outside of Baltimore. The bridge was struck by a cargo ship weeks ago and subsequently collapsed, resulting in multiple deaths.
Criminal Investigation by FBI
According to The Washington Post, FBI agents have started a criminal investigation into the incident involving the cargo ship Dali. Anonymous sources revealed that the FBI is looking into whether the crew knew about serious system problems before leaving port. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) was already investigating the incident, focusing on Hyundai-based equipment in the engine room of the Dali.
Rebuilding Efforts and Legal Actions
The bridge collapse led to the death of three construction workers, with three others missing and two injured. The cost of rebuilding the bridge could reach millions, with the federal government allocating $60 million in emergency funds. Baltimore Mayor Brandon M. Scott has hired law firms to conduct an independent investigation. Companies associated with the Dali have sought court protection in relation to the incident.
