Xiaomi’s Buttonless Smartphone May Inspire iPhone to Adapt as Well
The era of the button was destined to come to an end, just like video rental stores and physical media slowly faded into darkness. While it may take some time before this reaches smartphones sold in the U.S., overseas smartphone manufacturers are already discussing eliminating physical buttons from the chassis.
Xiaomi around the world
Xiaomi phones are popular overseas, with Xiaomi being the best-selling smartphone worldwide, so this alleged revelation is gaining traction. It’s not the first time we’ve seen a buttonless smartphone. Buttonless phones already exist in international markets, with brands like Vivo, owned by the BBK conglomerate of Oppo, showcasing concepts up to five years ago. The smartphone also introduced the idea of touch-sensitive buttons with Air Triggers, which mimics much of what this buttonless future will be like.
Imagining a life with a smartphone without buttons is fun. At the same time, I would like something that is completely voice-controlled to make it accessible to more users than just those who can interact with a touch screen.
