A Story of Theft and Justice: Woman Tracks Campaign Signs

During the weeks leading up to the US presidential elections, the season of campaign sign theft reaches its peak.

Laura McCaskill, from Springfield, after four thefts of her Harris/Walz signs, decided to investigate who was behind these acts. Following the signal of the AirTag, she and her partner headed to the nearby town of Nixa, where they knocked on the door of a house that seemed to be the source of the signal. A woman opened the door, and McCaskill told her they believed she had something that had been stolen from their neighborhood. The woman mentioned that the car in question belonged to her son and described him as “an idiot” before retreating back inside.

### A horrifying discovery

Finally, the woman went to fetch her son, who admitted to having the sign in the trunk of his car. Upon opening it, they found a large number of stolen signs. McCaskill described the experience as unsettling, comparable to discovering a “corpse.” She said, “I was expecting to find the AirTag, but not 59 signs. It was like, are you kidding me?”

McCaskill documented much of the encounter and posted it on her Facebook, urging others to report to the police. When asked why he had taken the signs, the young man mentioned seeing it on TikTok, where someone filled their house with stolen signs. “I’m not saying it’s right,” he added.

McCaskill characterized the situation as widespread and calculated theft. “My son said the best thing you can do is shame the behavior and share what happened,” she explained. Additionally, she claimed to have filed a police report about the theft.

In a recent update, McCaskill reported that the police were gathering reports and would not make any statements until the investigation concluded.
