Astronauts on the International Space Station face threats and may need to evacuate soon.

Security Concerns at the International Space Station

The International Space Station (ISS) has discovered cracks and leaks in certain modules, particularly in the Russian Zvezda module, leading to increased air loss. To mitigate risks, astronauts have been temporarily moved to the American section of the station.

International Cooperation and Security Measures

Management of the ISS is primarily overseen by NASA and Roscosmos, with collaboration from the European Space Agency (ESA) and JAXA from Japan. These partnerships are essential for maintaining the station’s operations until the 2030s.

Ongoing Threats and Security Challenges

The ISS faces various threats, including micrometeoroids and space debris (MMOD), which constantly jeopardize its modules. Despite preventive efforts, the accumulation of space debris remains a significant concern. NASA is monitoring over 50 vulnerable areas, including a leak in the tunnel of the Russian Zvezda module that has been problematic since 2019.
