Android 15 Blocks Certain Notifications on Mobile Link: How Does It Affect Users?
Enhanced Security in Android 15: Goodbye to Notifications with Sensitive Information
Google has strengthened privacy in Android 15 by automatically hiding certain notifications on devices synced with Windows 11 via Phone Link. Now, two-factor authentication (2FA) codes and other one-time passwords (OTP) will no longer be displayed by default on linked devices.
Phone Link, previously known as Your Phone, is an application that allows connecting a Windows 11 computer with an Android or iOS mobile device. Thanks to this integration, users can receive messages, make calls, and manage notifications from their PC. However, with the new update, alerts with sensitive information will appear as “hidden confidential content” instead of being fully displayed.
Limitations and Possible Solutions for Affected Users
In most devices from other manufacturers, these alerts will be blocked without the possibility of adjustment. This means that users will not be able to view 2FA codes sent to their mobile devices via Phone Link on their computer.
Android expert Mishaal Rahman has pointed out that Microsoft could solve this issue on devices with the preinstalled application. This could be achieved by using the Companion Device Role for Computer feature, which allows companion apps to request specific permissions for synchronization with computers.
It has not been confirmed yet if Microsoft will implement this solution or when it could reach affected devices. Meanwhile, those who rely on two-factor authentication to access their accounts from the PC will need to look for alternatives, such as manually copying the codes from their mobile devices or using password managers with device synchronization.
