The Georgia House Meteorite is 20 Million Years Older than Earth

On a sunny day in June, a 1-ton meteorite exploded over Atlanta, Georgia, with a fragment landing on a house in McDonough. Geologists at the University of Georgia determined the meteorite to be 4.56 billion years old, older than Earth. The composition revealed it came from a group of asteroids between Mars and Jupiter. The meteorite disintegrated and released an energy explosion equivalent to 20 tons of TNT. The McDonough meteorite, the 27th found in Georgia, will undergo further analysis at the university to understand potential asteroid impact risks.
