New robot introduced for chilling in the most eerie way possible

In the past decade, humanoid robot manufacturers have been striving to make their creations more and more human-like. But here, in 2024, we seem to be witnessing a strange shift in the agility of our bipedal robotic dreams.

Unitree Robotics, based in China, released a new video on Monday, showcasing the new G1 being sold. It’s simply the latest demonstration of a robot maneuvering in totally non-human ways to achieve its goals, as seen in the GIF above.

The video includes many strange movements showing how the robot can get up from the ground or greet people by pulling off some Exorcist-style torso moves, spinning 180 degrees. And it all looks surprisingly similar to the new version of Boston Dynamics’ Atlas, which has a new way of action.

We are still far from AGI that will help robots perform tasks, but if we continue on this trajectory, it seems unlikely that robots will be doing the mundane tasks that humans don’t want to do. We are allowing AI to skip all the boring stuff and jump ahead to making music and writing poetry.
