Trump rambling about “nuclear warming” in a disastrous two-hour talk with Elon Musk

A defining feature of Trump’s appearances in 2024 is his weakness. Now that the former president is not sharing the stage with 81-year-old Joe Biden, he looks and sounds like a 78-year-old man.

During his lengthy interview on Monday night on , Trump rambled and spoke with difficulty, something familiar to anyone who has spoken with a relative whose dentures are not properly placed. He rambled about the beauty of Vice President Kamala Harris, talked about oil drilling, and the danger of “nuclear warming.”

Musk and Trump talked for about two hours. It was a meandering conversation, dominated by the former president and his strange obsessions. The chat was scheduled to start at 8 p.m. ET, but, like all high-profile appearances on Musk’s “App for Everything,” it was a technical disaster that started late.

When they finally appeared, 40 minutes after eight, . He was most likely lying, according to a .

Details about Trump’s interview

Musk started his interview by praising Trump for not dying when a bullet from an assassin grazed his ear. Trump called it a miracle and said it happened because he had turned his head to look at a chart.

“All because I left a chart about immigration that showed the numbers are so good. Now I love that chart even more,” he said.

Immediately, Trump seemed off. He was slurring his words and seemed to have a lisp. It was the kind of thing that could be attributed to technical difficulties related to X, if it weren’t for Trump’s team filming a video of the call. The strange lisp was also present in person.

The two-hour conversation was largely about things we have heard before. He repeatedly praised Elon while complaining about energy prices.

“It’s the price of gas,” he said. “Now your cars don’t require as much gas, so you can’t… you have a great product, I have to say, I have to be honest with you. I think that doesn’t mean everyone should have an electric car. But those are minor details. Your product is amazing.”

Trump’s brand of economic populism doesn’t quite resonate when filtered through 20-year-old political memes and delivered with a slight lisp.

“But gas, Elon, is the cost of energy,” Trump said. “Not just gas, it’s the cost of heating your home. And cooling it. And when that starts to come down, it’s gone up 100%, 150%, and 200%. And that has to come down. When that comes down. And we’re going to drill, baby, drill. You know, they stopped drilling and then they started drilling because they went back to Trump’s policies.”

His comments on Harris

He said Harris wasn’t smart enough to lead, then seemed delighted with her appearance on the cover of Time magazine.

“She looked like the most beautiful actress that ever existed. It was a drawing, and actually, it looked a lot like our great first lady, Melania,” he said.

Trump says he saw Kamala Harris today on Time Magazine. He says she looked beautiful but then says it was drawing. He then says she looked like Melania Trump.

Trump then rambled on about how he thought climate change worked, which led him to talk about nuclear weapons.

“The biggest threat is not global warming. Where the oceans are going to rise 1/8 of an inch in the next 400 years and you’ll have more beachfront property,” he said, misunderstanding what will happen to coasts as sea levels continue to rise. “The biggest threat is not that, the biggest threat is nuclear warming. Because now we have five countries that have significant nuclear power, and we have to not allow anything to happen with stupid people like Biden.”

There are nine countries in the world with nuclear weapons, not five. And the threat of “nuclear warming” is indeed serious. Even limited use of nuclear weapons could radically alter global weather patterns and lead to massive famine. But the threat sounds hollow coming from Trump’s slurring lips, especially delivered in an X space with poor audio quality.

The similarities to DeSantis’ are impossible to ignore. DeSantis appeared on an X Space alongside Musk. Both were plagued by technical difficulties, sounded terrible, and made the candidate appear weak and foolish.

“DeSanctus TWITTER launch is a DISASTER!” Trump wrote about DeSantis’ launch on the failed social network Truth Social. “His whole campaign will be a disaster! LOOK!”
