Free mobile internet: Starlink offers satellite connection at no cost on these phones

The lack of internet access in rural and isolated areas has been a problem for years, but Starlink has the solution. Their satellite network will offer free connection to certain smartphones without the need for mobile phone antennas. Starting in July 2025, some models will be able to access this service automatically, allowing users to send messages, share locations, and even contact emergency services. How will it work and which devices will be compatible?

Starlink on smartphones: How will the free connection work?

Starlink will allow users in areas without mobile coverage to stay connected without depending on traditional networks. Through this new technology, devices will be able to:

  • Send and receive text messages.
  • Share real-time locations.
  • Access emergency services without mobile coverage.

In the initial phases, the connection will be limited to these basic uses, but it is expected that in the future it will also allow voice calls and more.

Compatible smartphones with Starlink’s free connection

Smartphones will be able to take advantage of this new functionality. Compatibility will depend on both the phone model and the installed software version.

So far, the confirmed models that will be able to connect to Starlink’s satellite network are:

  • iPhone 14 and later models (including Pro and Pro Max).
  • Pixel 9 and its Pro, Pro Fold, and Pro XL versions.
  • All models released from 2024 onwards.
  • Galaxy A14, A15, A16, A35, A53, A54.
  • All models of the S21 series onwards (including Plus, Ultra, and Fan Edition).
  • X Cover6 Pro.
  • Z Flip3 and later versions.
  • Z Fold3 and higher.

How to connect to Starlink from your phone

When a compatible smartphone loses mobile signal and switches to satellite connection, the message “T-Mobile SpaceX” will appear on the screen, indicating that it is using the Starlink network.

To ensure access to this technology, users will need to:

  1. Keep their device updated with the latest operating system version.
  2. Activate the satellite connection option, which will be available in the network settings.
  3. Have a compatible model, as only some phones will be able to connect to the satellites.
  • Register on the official Starlink website and check availability in your area.
  • Select a service plan, such as Residential (unlimited data) or Lite (for reduced usage).
  • Purchase the necessary equipment, such as the Gen 3 router or the Mini model, which allows speeds above 100 Mbps.
  • Properly install the device, ensuring it has a clear view of the sky.
  • Use the Starlink app, which helps find the best point of connection.

The future of connectivity with Starlink

marks a before and after in mobile connectivity, especially in regions where traditional coverage is limited or nonexistent. Although in its initial phase it will only allow basic functions, the possibility of making calls and browsing the internet without mobile networks could completely change the way we use our devices.

If you are not already using it, now may be the time to consider an upgrade.
