New York Cops Need to Arm Drones with Tasers for Emergency Calls, According to Pro-Trump Politician

The New York Police Department Embraces Drone Technology for 911 Calls

The New York Police Department (NYPD) is gearing up to use drones in response to 911 calls in a new program. This initiative was unveiled during a recent testimony at a House Homeland Security Committee hearing in Washington, DC. Representative Troy Nehls of Texas even proposed equipping these drones with tasers, believing it could potentially save lives. The NYPD is currently setting up drone landing platforms on precinct rooftops and will soon be deploying unmanned aerial vehicles to respond to 911 calls in Brooklyn, the Bronx, and Central Park.

Growing Trend of Police Departments Using Drones

The use of drones by police departments is on the rise, with similar programs already in operation in affluent California cities located near San Diego and Los Angeles. In fact, the largest Taser manufacturer in the US, Axon, has announced the development of Taser-equipped drones in 2022 for use in situations involving active shooters. Despite these advancements, the ethical implications of deploying armed drones by law enforcement continue to spark debate.
