The novel DJI Mini Drone 4K is compact enough to be held in the palm of your hand.

Imagine a drone that is no bigger than a small swallow (don’t you dare ask me, “African or European?”). Chinese drone manufacturer DJI could already have a super small and very cheap drone available, although not yet in the U.S. Based on an unboxing video of the rumored DJI Neo, the company’s new drone could be extremely cheap and the best way to annoy neighbors on a limited budget.

In recent months, we have seen some other leaks of the DJI Neo through a mistaken listing on Walmart. That put the drone at just $329 and with the ability to record in 4K. On Wednesday, the Italian YouTube channel enontheroad (via ) posted an unboxing video of a supposed Neo they found available in Malaysia. According to the video, the drone has the same design as the recent DJI Avata 2, but it will cost significantly less than that $1,000 drone and goggles combo.

If there’s a photo, there’s a video

YouTuber Nicola Cortellucci claims that the device will be sold for only €199 in Europe, or just over $228. This is based on a conversion from the Malaysian ringgit and probably does not exactly reflect prices in the U.S. Nevertheless, Cortellucci said that there is another “Fly More” listing with an accessory package that would sell for €350, or $388. This is in line with DJI’s usual pricing model.

Drone features

Without images of the drone itself, we cannot say how strong its sensors are until we finally have one in hand. Another issue could be the lack of obstacle avoidance features, which could result in unnecessary accidents for the inexperienced drone pilot. Based on that, plus the limited sensor, the Neo could be better used as an outdoor-only device. At least you won’t need to register it with the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration as it weighs less than 250 grams.
