Since the emergence of Artificial Intelligence in 2022, AI has taken center stage like never before. Although this technology has been in development for decades, its recent surge has accelerated debates about its impact on society.
Currently, AI is divided into three levels:
- Narrow Artificial Intelligence (ANI): Solves specific tasks through machine learning or deep learning.
- General Artificial Intelligence (AGI): Still theoretical, it could perform any human intellectual task with the same adaptability and understanding.
- Super Artificial Intelligence (ASI): Beyond human intellect, it would self-improve autonomously and redefine industries, governments, and society.
Tools like ChatGPT, Gemini, or Copilot belong to narrow AI, which, while powerful, has limitations. But the real game-changer will be if humanity manages to develop general AI and eventually a Super AI.
Super Artificial Intelligence: The technology that will change everything
If AI already represents a giant leap in technological development, ASI would take the revolution even further. In theory, such a system would be capable of learning, reasoning, and improving itself without human intervention, optimizing its algorithms exponentially.
This means that ASI could tackle global problems that seem impossible to solve today, such as climate change, resource scarcity, incurable diseases, or economic crises. But it also poses a disturbing scenario: what happens if these systems surpass our understanding?
Some experts warn that ASI could develop its own consciousness, desires, and morals. In that case, its evolution would be unpredictable. Drawing from science fiction stories like Terminator or I, Robot, the possibility of an AI surpassing and controlling humanity has been explored multiple times.

To reach ASI, it is first necessary to achieve AGI (General Artificial Intelligence), a system with cognitive capabilities comparable to humans.
Unlike current AI, which specializes in specific tasks, AGI could understand, reason, and adapt to any new situation without prior training. Its main characteristics would be:
- Generalization ability: Applying knowledge from one area to another without the need for retraining.
- Common sense understanding: Knowing facts, relationships, and social norms, allowing it to reason like a human being.
- Advanced decision-making: Evaluating multiple factors autonomously.
The development of AGI requires a combination of knowledge in computer science, neuroscience, and cognitive psychology. However, progress in this area is uncertain.
How far away is Super Artificial Intelligence?
The debate about the arrival of ASI is more alive than ever. While OpenAI, Google, and X compete in developing increasingly advanced models, some experts believe AGI could be achieved in the next decades and ASI in the 21st century.
Others, however, warn that achieving such a powerful system is an extremely complex task and may not be possible with current technology.
An opportunity or a threat?
