Europe’s huge gamble on AI: Massive factories, tons of cash, and a mad dash to beat the clock!
The European Commission is making a bold move with a record investment to create chip megafactories, aiming to boost computing power access across the continent and solidify its position in the AI world.
### Record Investment to Change the Technological Map

European companies are stepping up to the plate, responding to the call to build AI gigafactories. With Ursula von der Leyen leading the charge, the initiative plans to mobilize a whopping 200 billion euros, with 20 billion set aside for specialized gigafactories. Already, 76 expressions of interest have been received, totaling over 230 billion euros in potential investments.
### A Global Race with Favorites Already Emerging

These selected gigafactories will revolutionize the industry with up to 100,000 next-gen chips, quadrupling the capacity of current facilities. Funding will be sourced from various European programs and Member States, setting the stage for a global AI race. With other powers already in the game, Europe must act fast to secure its spot at the top.
