European Countries Halt Shipments to US Due to Import Tariffs
The main postal services of Germany, Denmark, Sweden, and Italy have announced the immediate suspension of shipments to the United States due to new import tariffs. France, Austria, and the United Kingdom are also expected to follow suit.
Immediate suspensions and chain reactions
Deutsche Post, DHL Parcel Germany, PostNord, and Poste Italiane have already stopped accepting commercial shipments to the US. Poste Italiane will put all packages on hold starting August 23, while Royal Mail in the UK will suspend shipments to ensure packages arrive before the tariffs take effect.
Impact on the United Kingdom and potential extension of the crisis
PostEurop, representing 51 European postal operators, warns that if a solution is not reached with the US by August 29, other members may also suspend shipments. This could disrupt e-commerce, small businesses, and regular consumers who rely on international deliveries.
