The Ultimate Quest: Making Gen Z Thrive!

A recent study reveals that Generation Z tends to switch jobs after just a year, a stark contrast to millennials who typically stay for two years and Generation X and baby boomers who stick around for about three. Job stability is no longer a top priority for the younger generation; instead, they are focused on gaining experiences and planning their professional growth.

### A Challenge for Companies

This trend presents a challenge for organizations, as they now face increased costs in recruitment, training, and retention. Offering traditional benefits and competitive salaries is no longer enough to keep a generation that prioritizes growth and development. Andrea Ávila, CEO of Randstad for Argentina, Chile, and Uruguay, emphasized the need to rethink career paths to provide continuous learning and impactful opportunities that cater to the desires and needs of younger workers.

This shift in job-hopping behavior is a global phenomenon, with job offers for entry-level positions decreasing by 29% since January 2024. As a result, many young people are diversifying their income by taking on multiple jobs or seeking alternative opportunities to acquire new skills.

### New Job Expectations

The study also found that only 45% of Generation Z is working full-time in traditional roles, with 31% expressing a desire for a second job to not only increase income but also to gain valuable experiences that contribute to their professional development. More than half (52%) are actively exploring new job opportunities, indicating a strong desire for mobility and growth. Retaining this generation requires more than just a competitive salary; it calls for environments that foster growth, provide a voice for employees, and align work with personal values and purpose.
