A darker dark mode, but not AMOLED
WhatsApp introduced dark mode in 2020, but many users complained that the background was more gray than black, which did not offer the experience many were looking for, especially those with OLED screens who prefer absolute black to save battery. Now, the platform has adjusted its dark theme, making it darker, although it still does not reach the much-desired “AMOLED black.”
How does this affect chats?
In chats, the change is not as drastic, as the background adapts to the setting you have chosen. If you prefer a completely black background, you can easily set it up. You just need to adjust the “background wallpaper brightness” to the maximum to eliminate the doodles or patterns seen in the default background.
This new adjustment is currently available to all users of the beta version, but it should not take long to reach the stable version of WhatsApp in the coming weeks.
WhatsApp continues to look for ways to improve its interface for night users and those who simply prefer a darker screen. Although absolute black is not yet achieved as some desire, the application has taken a step closer in that direction.
