The Bridge Defying the Abyss: 600 Meters Above the “Earth’s Crevasse”
The mountainous province of Guizhou, known for its stunning landscapes, has recently set a historical record with the Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge. With 625 meters in height over the Beipan River and a total length of 2,890 meters, it has become the longest suspension bridge and one of the most spectacular in the world. The main span measures 1,420 meters, surpassing the famous Siduhe Bridge that held the record for the longest suspended span for decades.
A canyon dubbed the “Earth’s Crevice”

The bridge crosses the Beipan River Gorge, a deep and narrow canyon dubbed the “Earth’s Crevice.” Construction began in 2021, allowing for a challenging section of the highway between Liuzhi and Anlong to be bridged. Beyond its practical function, the project has been designed as a tourist attraction, featuring a visitor center, a tramway, elevators, and glass platforms for visitors to admire the abyss from the top of the towers.
China, a global leader in high bridges
China currently holds the majority of high infrastructure worldwide. Out of the 50 highest bridges in the world (over 300 meters), 47 are located in China. The province of Guizhou alone aims to surpass 1,000 bridges over 100 meters in height by 2030, a number that surpasses the second country on the list, Italy, with only 60 high bridges. [Source: ]
