Man Arrested in Florida for Causing $700,000 in Damages to Solar Energy Facilities.
A 43-year-old Jordanian man living in Orlando, Florida, has been arrested on four counts of bomb threat charges and one count of destruction of a power facility, as reported by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ).
Alleged Threats and Destruction
Hashem Younis Hashem Hnaihen is accused of breaking windows at Florida stores and leaving threatening letters due to his supposed support for Israel. Additionally, he broke into a solar power facility in Wedgefield, Florida, in June and spent hours breaking solar panels, cutting cables, and destroying electronic equipment.
Incident Details Unveiled
In June, Hnaihen wore a mask while breaking the entrance glass of stores that he believed supported Israel, leaving “warning letters” expressing his desire to “destroy or explode everything here in the U.S., especially businesses and factories that support the racist state of Israel.” The reasons behind his actions are not immediately clear, but the Middle East policy has been a contentious issue in the U.S., especially following the violent actions carried out by Hamas militants in October 7, 2023.
Legal Consequences
Hnaihen was arrested on July 11 and faces serious charges for his actions. He pleaded not guilty and could potentially face up to 10 years in prison for each threat against Florida businesses and up to 20 years for destroying the power generation facility. FBI Director Christopher Wray condemned the violence caused by Hnaihen, emphasizing that such actions will not be tolerated, and those responsible will be held accountable.
