FromSoftware has made Elden Ring: The Shadow of Erdtree more accessible for players seeking a less challenging experience.
FromSoftware responds to player feedback
The Elden Ring DLC, named “Shadow of the Erdtree,” has been out for nearly a week and has garnered mixed reviews. The criticism mainly revolves around its difficulty, prompting FromSoftware to address the concerns of players struggling with the game by introducing a new update to ease the challenge.
Enhancing gameplay through updates
The latest update, implemented on Wednesday, focuses on enhancing the newly introduced mechanic in the DLC known as Shadow Realm Blessing. This Blessing system offers players a boost to their offensive capabilities and reduces the damage they take, with the update aiming to further strengthen these aspects to aid players in their journey.
In “Shadow of the Erdtree,” players can enhance their blessings by locating Scadutree fragments scattered throughout the game. These fragments are essential for increasing the Scadutree blessing, which in turn improves both offensive and defensive stats. Additionally, the new Blessings system bolsters the summons available to players, referred to as Spirit Ashes. By discovering Revered Spirit Ashes within the Shadow Realm, players can empower their summons to deal greater damage.
Despite FromSoftware’s reputation for crafting challenging games, the decision to adjust the difficulty of Shadow of the Erdtree reflects the studio’s responsiveness to player feedback. Following a shift in reviews on Steam from “Positive” to “Mixed,” where players provided constructive criticism regarding performance issues and the game’s high level of difficulty, the developer opted to offer some relief to the player base.
