Google Home Enhances User Experience with New Offline Capability

Exciting News for the Connected Home

With the recent update of Google Home, devices like Google Nest, Chromecast, TVs with Android 14, and some LG TVs can now directly control Matter devices. This means that commands no longer need to pass through the cloud to work, theoretically making actions faster and easier. This change allows devices on the same Wi-Fi network to respond without needing an internet connection. However, this capability does not work when we are away from home.

Greater Independence for Home Devices

One of the most relevant aspects of this update is the ability to operate without relying entirely on the cloud. Previously, even simple actions like turning on a light bulb required commands to be sent to the cloud. Now, thanks to Matter technology, those same commands can be managed locally, simplifying the user experience and improving system efficiency.

Matter: The Key to Interoperability in the Connected Home

Matter has revolutionized the way devices from different brands interact with each other. Before its arrival, users had to choose a connected home ecosystem like Samsung or Google and ensure their devices were compatible with it. With Matter, this problem disappears, as devices bearing the Matter logo are interoperable across different platforms, making it easier to shop for and set up a connected home.
