Hyve Security Box: Keep Your Packages Safe from Pirates with a Loud Scream!

The security boxes at home don’t always deter pirates and thieves. But maybe this giant, code-locked safe will. The box includes a “pod” that instructs the delivery person to leave the package in a container attached to your door frame. Even if someone manages to get close enough to see the contents, the box will shout at them until they move away. Hyve is not just another attempt to keep your shipments safe but also a way to address the many issues of online sales.

## A bit of history to get things started

Hyve is a startup that started with its first solar-powered security box to protect your shipments. It was introduced at CES 2025. It can connect to other Matter security systems and is locked with a pin code and a lock activated by an app. The “pod” is attached to a thick carbon fiber cable screwed to the inside door frame of your house. The security could be compromised if you use industrial-sized bolt cutters, but in that case, there is added security in the integrated accelerometer. This means that if someone tries to move the box, the pod will start emitting high-pitched screams that alert the owner or connected neighbors through an app.

You can share access to the pod via Bluetooth or WiFi with people you trust to pick up your packages. Hyve pods also rely on delivery drivers to do their part because you can leave instructions with your online order, though there is no guarantee that the delivery driver will follow them. At least there is a space for drivers to take a photo of the delivered package.

Melissa Kieling, co-founder of Hyve, told Gizmodo that the startup is finalizing an agreement with a delivery company to allow drivers access to the pods without owners having to give them their PIN codes. There is a possibility that Amazon and other online stores may not require individual boxes for each order, but this would require changes to their distribution process.

If the Hyve box becomes popular, a return feature could be added, alerting nearby drivers to pick up a shipment that the customer returns.

Hyve will hit the market in June and will be sold starting at $300, while the app requires an annual subscription.
