Living for 150 Years Ain’t Just Science Fiction: Geneticist Says It Could Happen, Watch Out!

From ancient pharaohs to modern labs, the quest for eternal life has always been a thing. Nowadays, scientists like Manel Esteller, a Genetics professor at the University of Barcelona, are shedding some light on the matter:

Between Immortality Myths and Biological Boundaries

The promise of living 150 years is not science fiction. A geneticist warns that approaching that number could be possible

The buzz started when Russian President Vladimir Putin suggested to Xi Jinping the idea of “rejuvenation” through organ transplants. Esteller agrees that transplants can enhance our lifespan and quality of life, but he also points out a major roadblock – our main organ, which defines us and, like everything else, ages.

The current human lifespan record is 122 years, held by Jeanne Calment. Esteller believes that our cells simply can’t handle more than 120 years, but he also adds that…

The Key: Quality Over Quantity

The promise of living 150 years is not science fiction. A geneticist warns that approaching that number could be possible

He stresses that the real challenge isn’t just living longer, but living better. Aging signs start popping up at 50, things go downhill by 65, and by 70 it’s pretty obvious. Simply extending life without addressing these stages would only mean more fragility, not more vitality. That’s why researchers are focusing on slowing down cellular aging and improving metabolism.

Dog Trials and the Human Leap

There are currently over 1,300 dogs in the US taking part in a cutting-edge clinical trial, with plans to apply the findings to humans down the road. If successful, this could open up doors to treatments that could add decades to our organ’s lifespan.

However, Esteller is cautious: The real trick won’t be getting to that age, but doing it with a body and mind that can handle the journey.
