Dbrand’s social media is next level, giving $10,000 as a sorry!
Dbrand, a well-known company that makes skins for mobile devices, recently got into some trouble on social media. It all started with a tasteless joke about a customer’s last name that ended up costing the company over $10,000 to make things right.
Dbrand’s Mess-Up
A user named Bhuwan Chitransh reached out to Dbrand on Monday, asking for advice on how to maintain the color of a Macbook cover. Instead of providing helpful information, the company decided to mock the user’s last name.
“Your last name is basically crap, seriously,” Dbrand replied in a tweet that has since been deleted.
Dbrand responded to Chitransh’s inquiry the same day, but soon faced backlash for their inappropriate comment.
Apology and Solution
After facing criticism, Dbrand issued an apology for the tweet and offered a generous sum of $10,000 to Chitransh as a goodwill gesture.
“Well, that escalated quickly,” the company stated on Wednesday. “1. Yes, we made a mistake by making fun of someone’s name. 2. We apologized to him and offered $10,000 as a goodwill gesture. 3. We’ve been joking with customers on social media for over a decade. We’re not going to stop, but maybe next time it could be you who gets $10,000.”
Chitransh, on the other hand, announced on Thursday that he would be keeping the money.
“I usually enjoy your jokes, but this one crossed the line. Engaging in conversations that belittle communities is not okay. Nonetheless, I’ll take the 10k,” Chitransh tweeted.
