Cybertruck faces criticism on social media for transforming Seattle into a low-cost post-apocalyptic film location

When Tesla CEO Elon Musk unveiled the Cybertruck, he said he wanted the future to “look like the future.” Well, in some ways he achieved that. The Cybertruck has made major cities in the United States look like a low-budget science fiction movie where the producers couldn’t afford to make their futuristic cars look good. And now it seems like we have fast-forwarded to the post-apocalyptic version of our ridiculously low-budget future.

### What’s the Buzz on Social Media?

Reports on social media have shown a damaged Cybertruck sitting on a busy street in Seattle for days. It’s making our version of the future here in 2024 look pretty bleak.

The Reddit community has photos of the vehicle sitting there, looking pathetic. While we don’t know what caused the vehicle to break down and be abandoned like that, we assume it has something to do with that wheel that looks like it’s about to fall off. We can imagine it’s hard to drive when your wheel is like that.

The online Reddit community includes claims from people who say they have seen the vehicle firsthand.

“I passed by there this afternoon on my way to dinner,” said a Reddit user. “The owner was outside and was not happy that we were there. He said a kid crashed into his CT a few weeks ago and he was still trying to sort out the insurance to get it repaired. He said people had been harassing him and his wife for the past few days and he didn’t understand why. We told him his truck was all over Reddit and he got even more upset. We left pretty quickly.”

Gizmodo cannot verify the claims on Reddit. But everything seems quite funny to us, especially with so many people making jokes. One user wrote, “Honestly, I’m surprised no one has lifted it to steal the wheels.” And another replied, “Even junkies know it’s worthless.” In defense of the Cybertruck owners, the vehicle is not completely useless. There are probably plenty of struggling filmmakers who would buy it used as a cheap prop for their terrible science fiction movie.

It’s unclear if the vehicle has been removed yet. The Reddit post includes a photo of a notice dated the morning of September 6th. The notice says it will be towed by September 9th, but there have been no online updates from anyone in the area on whether that has already happened. But we’ll let you know if we hear anything else.
