Stanley pulls back 2.6 million mugs – watch out for those burns, folks!

A while back I wrote about Stanley, and now there’s another reason to talk about the company selling its mugs at such high prices: there are some products that caused burns because when splashing very hot drinks, medical attention is required.

On Thursday, Stanley issued a statement to recall about 2.6 million of its mugs, warning users to “stop using them immediately.” The products are not the Quencher. They are two stainless steel travel mugs, the Stanley Switchback and the Trigger Action. Both have a faulty lid that can come loose and spill hot coffee or whatever the user is drinking at high temperatures.

In their statement, Stanley said: “We ask all customers with one of these products to immediately stop using them and contact Stanley 1913 to have a replacement lid sent to them at no cost. At Stanley 1913 we are committed to constantly improving and focus on creating quality products that last a lifetime.”

The Consumer Safety Commission stated:

“Stanley has received 91 reports from around the world, 16 of them from the U.S., about the faulty lids that caused 38 burns worldwide, two of them in the U.S., and 11 consumers worldwide required medical attention.”

Gizmodo reached out to Stanley for more information.

In recent years, Stanley has become a viral sensation, and the company’s Quencher line, mainly bought by women, is a topic in TikTok videos worldwide. The frenzy over the brand may this year, shortly after a woman claimed that her Quencher mug miraculously survived her car fire.
