With this update, Siri now integrates with OpenAI’s chatbot. For example, if you ask Siri to write something, it will send the request to OpenAI’s chatbot, showing you suggestions in a pop-up window. In macOS Sequoia, Chat GPT will appear in a floating window, although it will not have access to your files or personal information. This feature could expand in the future.
Image Wand and Visual Intelligence
Additionally, the beta includes Image Playground, an AI image generator that allows you to create images based on friends and family. However, Apple will prevent inappropriate portrayals. You will also be able to send “Genmojis” via iMessages, which have a cartoonish style.
The Image Wand feature will allow you to convert sketches made on the screen with a finger or Apple Pencil into AI-generated images, similar to what the latest Samsung phones offer. Another anticipated feature is Visual Intelligence, which will only be available for iPhone 16 models, allowing AI to describe objects, animals, or plants through the camera.
Upcoming Update and Language Restrictions
Although iOS 18.1 has been in beta for a few months and Writing Tools have been tested on devices like the iPad mini, the official update is expected to arrive on October 28. However, Apple Intelligence features will be limited to English-speaking users in the U.S. The next update will also improve Writing Tools, allowing AI to rewrite texts in more varied ways.
